I was the valedictorian of my class, I played every sport, I led bible studies, I did camps — you name it, I did it. But I didn’t do those things for the right reasons. Then I ended up dating a guy in high school, and that relationship was awful. It set the standard for many of my relationships to follow. Years later, I joined a community group that distracted me from my old habits. But when we stopped meeting as often, I slid right back into those habits. I slipped up one night; and even though we used protection, it didn’t work. My relationship with the Lord to that point had been surface level at best. Two months later, I found out I was pregnant. I was 14 weeks along. The word “abortion” was brought up one night, and my grandparents offered to pay for it… and I let them. I was too ashamed to own up to my actions behind closed doors. Through my mistake, I came to know the Lord on a deeper level. After I finally opened up with my mom about what I’d done, she admitted that she’d also had an abortion. Being able to walk with her through that healing process helped me to heal as well. Since that time, I’ve fully committed my life, and my will, to Christ. I have experienced a deeper understanding of a relationship with the Lord than I thought possible. I’ve also been serving in a leadership role in a post-abortive ministry at my church. And now I get to walk through the healing stages with other women, showing them grace, forgiveness, who the Lord is, and that their past doesn’t define them. Everyone thinks abortion is a “quick fix” and there’s nothing that comes after it. But every October I think about it. Every time I pass by the abortion clinic, I hate the decision I made. Not a day goes by that I don’t wish I’d made a different decision, or wonder what it would be like if I had.

I was able to study for a week with Rita Springer. Understanding how to worship from my heart. Read this beautiful story, it will melt your heart.
